Rainforests and Their Beauty – Treeman Melbourne

If you’ve ever been to a rainforest, you would know just how incredibly beautiful they can be.  Filled with gorgeous wildlife and plants, rainforests will always provide you with a magical experience every visit.  Some people ask how they came to get their name, ‘rainforests’. To be honest, the answer is quite simple.  Rainforests are called that because they experience large amounts of annual rainfall (usually between 70-100 inches per year).

The Beauty of Rainforests

Rainforests are actually home to 50% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity.  What does this mean? This essentially refers to the habitats of all the animals, plants and microorganisms in a certain area.  Even though rainforests only account for around 5% of the entire earth’s surface area, they home approximately half of the world’s plant and animal species.

Did you know?

You can find them practically ALL over the world.  Antarctica is the only continent which is an exception though.  Its harsh weather conditions aren’t very permitting for rainforests.

Rainforests aren’t just filled with amazing animals and plants, but they’re also filled with resources we use every day.  Products such as coffee, fruits, vegetables, medicines, sugars and chocolate all stem from rainforests.

The Amazon in South America is, in fact, the world’s largest tropical rainforest.  The Amazon boats of having 1/5 of the world’s plants and birds. It also contains around 10% of the world’s mammals.

Rainforests don’t just provide a home for flora and fauna, but for people also.  Across the globe, you can find many tribes and civilisations living amongst the rainforests.  In certain areas of the world, these people have lived in these parts for thousands of years!

Not many know this, but they also play a role in helping to regulate temperatures around the world.  Furthermore, they also play a role in affecting weather patterns
